I never planned any of this. It started with eggs — just fresh eggs.

I was standing in a grocery store one day watching a customer change their mind about a dozen eggs they had carried all the way to the checkout counter. They just left them there. And I stood there wondering — how long will those eggs sit out? Who handled them? How fresh are they really?

That one moment sent me home to YouTube.

I knew absolutely nothing about chickens. I had never owned a pet in my life. But through weeks of watching, learning, trial and error — I raised five of the most beautiful, loving, mischievous, personality-filled girls you have ever seen in your life.

I called them my baby girls. They came running every single time I called.

The moment one of my hens learned her name and turned and came to me — everything changed. These were not just chickens. These were living, breathing, feeling souls who knew me. Who trusted me completely. Who followed me through my garden, jumped into my lap several times a day just to be close, grew up listening to jazz and classical music and R&B — and yes, walked up my porch steps more than once like they were about to ring the doorbell and wait to be invited inside the house.

I would escort them back down those steps trying to be serious. Then completely lose it laughing.

There were cold mornings I did not want to leave my house. Scorching summer days where going outside felt impossible. Every single time — I went anyway. Because they needed me. They did not ask to be brought into my life. I made that choice. Once I made it — I showed up for them the way I wish I had always understood my parents showed up for me.

That is what my girls taught me. Every sacrifice my parents made — getting up when they did not feel like it, going out in the cold, in the heat, in the hard seasons — just to make sure I was okay. I finally understood it all because of five little hens who came running when I called their name.

On my hardest days they picked my spirits up without even knowing they were doing it.

I started a YouTube channel because I wanted the world to know what I had discovered. The general public does not think of chickens as pets. They do not know about the personalities, the humor, the tenderness, the absolute joy of five girls who know their names and jump into your lap for hugs. That became my mission — to let people know that chickens can be pets too.

Somewhere in all of that love and laughter and garden walks and doorbell moments — FurryFeathersPets was born.

For every dog parent, cat lover and backyard chicken keeper who has ever felt that bond that words almost cannot hold.

Because they are not just pets.

They are family. 🐾
